Kickoff Discussion/Meeting (-09/30/2011)

• Chad Jenkins selected as initial coordinator

• Establishment of Bridges-SIG mailing list

• Discussion of current SIG goals:
  • develop and establish standard way to expose ROS as a service to applications outside of a ROS environment
  • develop a standard ROS data protocol and message structure for foreign clients
• Discussion of (possible) future goals:
  • foreign client security
  • transport considerations (performance, etc.)
  • exposure of additional ROS features (params, capability discovery, etc.)

• rosbridge as initial API offering for API freeze?

  • stick with JSON as the marshaling technology?
• IRC meetings
  • next meeting tentatively set for October 14th at 2:00pm EDT

Google Hangout Meeting (10/19/2011)

• discussed best ways to bring together rosbridge and rosserial
  • decided to begin a collaborative bridging documentation project
  • general agreement on the desirability of moving functionality out of the individual projects into ROS nodes than can be shared between the projects, but no roadmap as of yet
• discussed short-term goals
  • bugfixes to both projects
  • fuerte ready releases
• discussed long-term goals
  • bridging standard based on merging of projects
  • closer integration with ROS
